Legalization of the online gambling market is justified

(Amsterdam).- A majority of Dutch online gambling players prefer to gamble with a legal online provider. This is evident from the first Online Gambling Barometer, a study by the renowned research agency Ipsos into the state of the (online) gambling market. This outcome confirms the social importance of the Remote Gambling Act (KOA), which will enter into force on 1 April.

Legalization of the online gambling market is justified

In-depth qualitative research in the KOA Barometer also shows that consumers need crystal-clear and honest communication about possible winning opportunities and expect providers to support responsible gaming behavior. The representative quantitative research also shows that people in their twenties and early thirties are the most active target groups in the online gambling market.

Peter-Paul de Goeij, director of the industry association of online gambling providers (NOGA), finds the results of the Ipsos survey very valuable: “The purpose of the KOA Act is to provide consumer protection by guiding consumers to providers with a Dutch permit. When young target groups are active on the gambling market, the importance of regulation is even more important. ” The modernization of the Dutch Gambling Act makes it possible for online providers to apply for a license. That is very good news for the more than 1 million Dutch people who already gamble online. After 1 April they will be protected by Dutch laws and regulations.

De Goeij: “A safe, responsible and attractive online games of chance offer in the Netherlands is extremely important to NOGA. The raison d'être of the (online) gambling sector stands or falls with an intrinsically motivated, responsible game offering. That is why NOGA has also taken the initiative for the annual Online Game of Chance Barometer. ”

The Online Gambling Barometer is an annual survey and enables stakeholders to give their opinion on the state of affairs in the (online) gambling market.
